Fisheries and Marine Sciences Faculty, Universitas Brawijaya is located in Malang. For the needs of learning process and field activities, it is very necessary to have a station/laboratory which is easy accessible from Malang. So that in 2010, Fisheries and Marine Sciences Faculty, Universitas Brawijaya (FPIK-UB) bought a land in an area of ± 2500 m2 with a building within, located in Tambak Rejo, Sumbermanjing Wetan, Malang. The location of this laboratory is in the harbour street which is about ± 700 m from Coast Fisheries Harbour (Pelabuhan Perikanan Pantai (PPP)) Pondokdadap. After that, there was a renovation of the building so that it is pretty decent to be used as a laboratory. The first name which was used is Marine Station Sendangbiru.

The laboratory began to be used for the residence activity of students or faculty researchers in 2011, and the first Laboratory Chairman was Dr. Tri Djoko Lelono, Msi which was also a Laboratory Chairman of Probolinggo and Sumberpasir Laboratory based on the Rector Decree No. 030/SK/2011. Therefore, because of the relevant Laboratory Chairman is on a further study, so it is replaced by Dr. Ir. Daduk Setyohadi, MP as a Sendangbiru Laboratory Chairman to continue the previous Chairman period until 2014 based on the Rector Decree No.077/SK/2013.
