History
Laboratory of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (Laboratory of Remote Sensing and SIG) is laboratory part of Fisheries and Marine Resources Utilization Department (PSPK) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Universitas Brawijaya.
Laboratory of Remote Sensing and SIG began to be established in 2006 with the previous name is Mapping and Design of Marine Technology Laboratory (LPPTK). Establishment LPPTK is a forum for lecturer with expertise group of fisheries and marine resources Exploration and marine technology. This is one of the basic scientific competence Department of PSPK and as the reference to the department development. There are 3 basic competences in the scope of the PSPK Department, that is Exploration, Exploitation, and Conservation of fisheries and marine resources. LPPTK is a competence development center of fisheries and marine resources Exploration and marine technology.
The further development of laboratory activities and strengthening the competence of fisheries and marine resources makes the desire for more focus on the LPPTK study. Thus, Mapping and Design of Marine Technology Laboratory renamed to Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (Remote Sensing and SIG Laboratory).
